Privacy Policy

Who we are and what this policy covers

Smith Technology (smithtechnology.co.nz) is a New Zealand business based in Christchurch. This policy explains how we handle personal information, including information accessed through Google APIs, when we provide our advertising and analytics tooling to clients.

The tooling is a locally installed application (the "App") that connects an AI assistant chosen by the user to their own Google Ads, Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager and Google Search Console accounts. The App runs on the user's own computer. We handle personal information in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

In this policy, "we" and "us" mean Smith Technology, and "you" means a person who uses the App or contacts us.

Information we collect

We collect only what we need to set up the App and support our clients.

The App does not include analytics, tracking or telemetry that sends information to us.

How the App uses Google user data

The App accesses your Google data only to answer requests you make through your AI assistant, and only on your own computer.

What it accesses. When you sign in with Google, you grant the App access to:

How it uses the data. The App retrieves data to produce reports, diagnose tracking issues and prepare changes you request. It makes changes to your accounts only after showing you a preview and receiving your confirmation.

Where it is stored. Your Google sign-in token and settings are stored in a folder on your computer. Google data the App retrieves is held in memory while a request runs and is not stored by the App afterwards, apart from a local log of changes made. Nothing is sent to Smith Technology.

Sharing. We do not access, sell, rent or share your Google user data. Data the App retrieves is passed to the AI assistant you use, as described under Third parties.

Retention and deletion. You can delete the App's folder at any time to remove your token, settings and change log. You can also revoke the App's access to your Google account at any time (see Your rights).

Google API Services Limited Use disclosure

The App's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

In particular, Google user data is not used for advertising, not sold, not used to train AI or machine learning models by us, and not read by any person except with your consent, for security reasons, or where the law requires it.

Third parties and AI providers

Google data the App retrieves is shared only with the AI assistant you choose to connect it to, so that the assistant can respond to your requests.

That assistant (for example, Claude by Anthropic) is a separate service that you or your organisation have an agreement with. Its handling of the data is governed by its own privacy policy and terms, not by this policy. We recommend you review those terms before using the App.

We do not use any other third parties to process Google user data. We may share contact details with professional advisers or where the law requires it.

Security

The App connects to Google over encrypted HTTPS connections and uses Google's OAuth sign-in, so it never sees your Google password. Your access token stays on your computer, protected by your device's own security.

By default, the App previews every change before it is made, and it enforces budget limits set in its configuration. We keep the contact and support information we hold in secured business systems and keep it only as long as we need it for our engagement or legal obligations.

Your rights and how to contact us

Under the Privacy Act 2020, you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. Contact us using the details below and we will respond within 20 working days.

Revoking Google access. You can remove the App's access to your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions, then delete the App's folder from your computer.

Contact. Smith Technology, Christchurch, New Zealand. Email: ryan@smithtechnology.co.nz

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.

Changes to this policy. We will update this page if our practices change and show the date of the latest version at the top.
